Marcus Turle is a partner
at Field Fisher Waterhouse and one
of the founder members of FFW's
Privacy and Information Law Group.
A technology lawyer, Marcus has a
particular interest in the legal
regulation of information, and a
large proportion of his work derives
from the law relating to freedom of
information, data protection and
public sector data sharing.
He has advised the Home Office on
the information law aspects of the
government's proposed national
identity card scheme. |

Hazel Grant
is a Partner in Bird & Bird’s
International Data Protection Group
where she advises on data
protection, freedom of information
and other information law issues.
She advises public and private
sector clients on freedom of
information and environmental
information legislation and related
guidance. This has included
practical advice on how best to
draft contracts and the risks and
opportunities under the legislation.
She has also advised on reuse of
public sector information and data
exploitation projects, particularly
in the public sector. |
Her work regularly includes advice on
data protection compliance issues, including
data protection audits, data security issues
and transborder data flows.
Hazel has worked with central government
departments and other public bodies such as
the DCA, DWP, OFWAT, Defra, VOSA and special
health authorities and investment banks, web
retailers and global professional
partnerships.
Hazel speaks regularly on legal issues,
including those relating to IT projects,
data exploitation, data protection and
freedom of information. She is an
author of the loose-leaf work, the
Encyclopaedia of Privacy and Data
Protection, a contributing editor ( on data
protection and freedom of information ) to
the Encyclopedia of IT Law ( both published
by Sweet & Maxwell ) and is on the editorial
board of
Freedom of Information journal.
Damien
Welfare is a barrister at
2-3 Gray’s Inn Square. He
specialises in Information law,
including Freedom of Information,
Data Protection and the
Environmental Information
Regulations (EIR) and local
government law.
He appears in the Information
Tribunal, advises on a wide range of
EIR, FOI and DP issues, and
regularly addresses conferences and
seminars on these topics.
He is a member of
the Editorial Board of
Freedom of Information Journal,
published by PDP, and contributes

Moffat is a Partner in

She is particularly well-known for
her specialism on FOI issues.
Hazel has been working with a
wide range of public and private
sector clients over the last six
years on freedom of information and
privacy matters.
She was appointed in 2004 to
provide all freedom of information
training to over 500 staff at the
Scottish Parliament and has since
conducted specialist training
sessions for lawyers and managers at
major public sector bodies across

Brian Jones
joined Herbert Smith as a consultant
in 2000 following a career in which
he taught administrative law and
environmental law at a number of
universities in the UK and in
Australia.
Between 1994 and 2000 he was
Professor of Environmental Liability
at De Montfort University in
Leicester.
He has published
extensively in both subject areas:
his most recent book being a
co-authored work on Environmental
Liabilities ( Shaw and Sons, 2004 ). |

Brian Jones

He was involved in the late 1990's in
several consultancy projects, advising
Governments in EU accession countries about
requirements for harmonisation with EU
environmental law. Since 1992 he has been
editor of the bi-monthly professional
journal Environmental Liability. He was
recently appointed an Honorary Professor in
the Department of Law, University of Wales,
Aberystwyth.
Brian works closely within Herbert Smith
with the Environmental Law, Planning Law,
Public Law and IP Groups.
