Bridget Treacy leads the UK Data Protection and Outsourcing practice at international law firm Hunton & Williams.  She has built considerable expertise in advising on domestic and international data protection issues, particularly in the context of cross-border outsourcing and technology transactions. 

Bridget's transactional background has ensured that her data protection advice to clients is centred on achieving practical, rather than merely theoretical, solutions to their privacy issues.

Kate Brimsted is a Of Counsel in Herbert Smith's Intellectual Property Group and has specialised in Data Protection and Privacy law for nearly a decade.

She regularly advises clients in the UK, continental Europe and North America on a wide variety of data protection matters, such as whistleblowing schemes, international data transfer solutions, subject access requests in high value disputes, release of personal data in the context of regulatory investigations, internal privacy and IT security policies and risk analysis in corporate acquisitions and disposals.

Kate is a leading expert on Data Protection and Privacy law at Herbert Smith, a founding member and coordinator of the firm's Data Privacy Group and is a regular contributor to a wide spectrum of professional journals on topical Data Protection and Privacy, IP and IT issues.

Dan Cooper
is a Partner in the Covington & Burling LLP London office whose practice area involves advising on European privacy and data protection matters, as well as contentious and non-contentious intellectual property work.

Dan advises clients on compliance with UK and European data protection and privacy legislation, including the UK Data Protection Act, Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act, Human Rights Act, and related EU directives, such as the EU Data Protection Directive and EU Electronic Communications Data Protection Directive.

He has spoken on intellectual property and privacy issues before various public and private bodies, and has represented clients in regulatory proceedings involving European government agencies.

Mr. Cooper is a member of Privacy International's Board of Trustees, sits on the MI5's Security Forum, and is a member of CASRO's General Counsel and Privacy Officer's Forum.

Nick Graham is a Partner in the TMT Group at Denton Wilde Sapte and is head of the firm’s Information and Privacy Group. Nick specialises in data protection, freedom of information and privacy laws. Nick has acted for many public sector bodies including government departments, agencies and other public bodies on internal compliance procedures and the management of data risk including data security. Julie O’Neill
is Of Counsel to Kelley Drye & Warren's Advertising Law Group.

Ms O'Neill also advises clients on compliance with state and federal privacy and information security laws, and she is a regular contributor on privacy law developments to two privacy law publications.

Prior to joining Kelley Drye & Warren, Ms. O'Neill was an associate at Arent Fox Kintner Plotkin & Kahn in Washington, DC.

She also served as a staff attorney in the Federal Trade Commission's New York regional office, where she investigated violations of federal antitrust and consumer protection law.  Ms. O'Neill is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center.



Suzanne Rodway

Suzanne Rodway
is currently Group Privacy Director within the Legal & Compliance team at Barclays Bank.

She trained with global law firm Linklaters, where she qualified into the Technology, Media & Telecommunications practice.

In this role she advised clients on a variety of aspects of IT law but quickly developed an interest in global data protection and ecommerce laws an interest which has remained firmly in place ever since.

This interest led, after completing a number of years in the practice, to a move in-house within Linklaters to advise the firm on its own privacy and information risk management issues.

With the experience gained in this role Suzanne then undertook a secondment to Barclays as their interim head of data protection.  She joined Barclays in December 2006.

In her new role as Group Privacy Director she has responsibility for oversight of the group's compliance with privacy, data protection and freedom of information laws, worldwide.

Suzanne presents frequently on privacy issues and writes regularly on the subject. Additionally, she is the chair of the BBA's Data Protection Advisory Panel.



Ashley Roughton is a Barrister specialising in Data Protection, Intellectual Property and Competition and Law at Hogarth Chambers.  He was called to the bar in 1992 after spending 9 years as an academic engineer.

In addition to his legal qualifications, he has B.Sc and Ph.D in Engineering and an M.Sc in Economics.

He is an external examiner for the department of Commercial Law at Queen Mary College in intellectual property and his is a member of the Department of Economics at City University.

Louise Townsend Louise Townsend is a Senior Associate in Pinsent Masons' Outsourcing, Technology and Commercial Group. She specializes in data protection and freedom of information for both the public and private sector. This includes carrying out data protection compliance audits, advising on overseas transfers, processor contracts, information security, information sharing, website compliance and marketing.

For freedom of information she provides advice on handling requests, applying exemptions, conducting internal reviews and handling appeals as well as on records management.

Louise is a regular contributor to information law and IT publications and speaks regularly on these topics including media engagements and press interviews. She is named as an Associate to Watch in Chambers 2009 with clients having "every confidence in her abilities”.



Mark Watts is a Partner at Bristows, specialising in non-contentious IT matters, particularly transactional matters, such as negotiating software development, system integration and outsourcing agreements.  He has particular expertise in relation to E-commerce and data protection.

Mark joined Bristows in 2003 from IBM, where he was in-house counsel for more than six years.  Mark held many positions within the IBM Law Department, including Global Data Privacy Counsel, European Software Counsel and European Business Process Outsourcing Counsel.

In these and other roles, Mark gained experience of most forms of transactional and non-transactional IT matters.

As Data Privacy Counsel, Mark was responsible for advising on IBM's entry into the EU-US Safe Harbor arrangement and the development and implementation of IBM's internal data protection policies, and auditing programmes.

Since joining Bristows, Mark has introduced the firm's 'Health Check' IT services - fixed price services designed to enable full compliance with relevant E-Commerce legislation ( the E-Commerce Health Check ) and Data Protection legislation ( the Data Protection Health Check ).
